Bharath University is the first private Engineering College started in 1984 by Sri Lakshmi Ammal Educational Trust in Tamil Nadu.The trust later started Dental College and Hospital. The Bharath Institute of Science and Technology (BIST) was then brought under the territory of Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research (BIHER) in 2003.
